- Spells are usually cast in a "square within a circle." The square is made up of the four cardinal points (north, south, east, west) & their corresponding elements.
- The elements & cardinal points are seen as guardians of the ritual & must be invited & treated respectfully. Make sure to thank them for attending the ritual.
- The altar usually faces north, & circle casting usually begins at north.
- Make certain that spells follow the Rede & harm no one.
- Spells should never be cast to control or coerce others.
- Only cast spells on or for others at their request or with their permission.
- Don't cast a spell on someone if it goes against their beliefs, unless they expressely request.
- No spell should be cast with evil or negative intentions.
- Don't try to change another's situation with a spell, it may be an important lesson they need to learn or their way of paying off karma.
- For spells of invitation, growth, or increase, perform during a waxing or full moon.
- For spells for help with discovering inner secrets, banishing, binding, or decrease, perform during the waning moon.
Actually Casting the Spell
- Pick a place with good energy that is safe, private, & free of interruptions.
1.) Intention: Focus your will; what is the goal of the spell?
2.) Preperation: Gather the necessary tools & materials for the spell.
3.) Cast the Circle: Call the corners, invoke the guardians (watchtowers), invite the Goddess & God to attend, & raise power.
4.) The Spell: Recite the spell aloud in a commanding voice & perform the necessary rituals.
5.) Close the Circle: Thank & dismiss the corners & the deities. Close the circle & ground your power.
- Spells can be directed to their target through visualization. Personal effects or representations can also represent the target.
- Spells take time to have effect, so be patient!
